Thankfully I don\u2019t have to. I have the internet to fill in the gaps.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first of a series of blog posts designed primarily to point you in the direction of great sources of information I have found.<\/p>\n<p>Some weeks ago I wrote a <a href=\"http:\/\/jonhartley.com\/blog\/category\/social-media-for-x\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Social media for X\u2019<\/a> article on \u2018Social Media for hotels\u2019 at<a href=\"http:\/\/jonhartley.com\/blog\/be-our-guest-and-let-us-be-yours-the-modern-social-media-friendly-hotel\/\" target=\"_blank\"> \u2018Room service: the social media friendly hotel\u2019<\/a> where I made suggestions on the kind of social media content hotels might use to attract guests and provide good service.<\/p>\n<p>Since writing I have been looking at several other blogs on the same subject and here are just five of them that contain great ideas for hoteliers throwing themselves wholeheartedly online.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.xotels.com\/en\/marketing\/top-10-social-media-marketing-tips-for-hotels\" target=\"_blank\">Top 10 social media marketing tips for hotels<\/a> \u00a0includes the suggestion that you \u2018Invite guests to join your FaceBook page (upload their emails), and ask them to post pictures of the hotel and their trip.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The blog\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/blog\/220645\" target=\"_blank\"> Hotels That Rock at Social Media\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0mentions that\u00a0\u2018The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas\u00a0is known for providing social-media-lites good rates and VIP treatment.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Rewarding social media nuts! What better way could there be for getting your name in all the right places in all the right ways?<\/p>\n<p>Among other things the blog post <a href=\"http:\/\/hotelmarketing.com\/index.php\/content\/article\/social_media_for_hotels_whats_the_problem \" target=\"_blank\">Social media for hotels: whats the problem?<\/a> cautions that social media marketing, if it is going to be sustained (it\u2019s a long haul business), should be\u00a0\u2018Basic and simple enough to be doable by hotel staff on an ongoing basis\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Correcto!<\/p>\n<p>The slide show <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/tojulius\/how-hotels-can-use-social-media-to-attract-event-planners \" target=\"_blank\">How hotels can use social media to attract event planners<\/a> reminds us that social media can be (and should be) targeted at specific audiences.<\/p>\n<p>I especially liked the slide \u2018Use video to display venue capabilities\u2019 though I might have used the term \u2018facilities\u2019 instead of \u2018capabilities\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>And finally a blog post that ends \u00a0with a neat list of successful social media campaigns\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hospitalitynet.org\/news\/4053354.html\" target=\"_blank\">When Social Media for Hotels works<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If there are any social media for hotel ideas you want to share below in comments then please, do disturb!<\/p>\n<p>If you want practical help getting your social media going or with a specific campaign <a href=\"http:\/\/jonhartley.com\/?page_id=1053\">give us a call<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Remember! you can subscribe to our blog, choosing alerts on updates to only those categories that interest.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[subscribe2]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; I don\u2019t pretend to know everything about anything.
