If you have a personal Facebook account you’ll be familiar with the process of making ‘friends’. Anyone you meet who ranks between ‘decent enough (probably not dangerous)’ and ‘totally cool, hot or a great laugh’ you can simply send a request to be friends and they can accept or decline.
Facebook Page is a different beast from your personal Facebook account. For a Page where you network professionally you do not gather friends. You gather fans i.e. people who like your stuff, respect your business insight, are interested in your services or products.
Where do you start gathering fans for your Facebook Page? This is not an exhaustive list of strategies for gathering Facebook Page fans, but it should help you make an excellent start.
- 1. Invite
- 2. Attract
Invite
- Click the “Invite friends” button on your Facebook Page and invite personal Facebook account friends who may be interested in hearing about your business.
- Send an e-mail to all your business contacts including clients, suppliers, fellow members of business clubs and associations
- Announce your Facebook page to all your connections on LinkedIn (if you have an account there – and if not, why not?)
- Make sure to ask all Fans to recommend your Page to people they know.
- Include information on your Page in all company literature and traditional advertising
Attract
- install ‘like’ buttons on all your website and blog pages
- Keywords on your page will increase the probability of your page appearing in Google search results for searches of the same keywords. On your Facebook Page make sure you use keywords on your Info page and add keywords to all posts in your news feed and in photo captions.
- Include links to your Facebook Page in blog posts and on your website alongside the promise of more information.
Finally, here’s a video with some interesting ideas on sourcing more fans with the focus on interaction. The guys delivery is a bit of a trip but a nice change from the usual Mid-West chirpiness.
