Not a bunch of cut&#8217;n&#8217;paste fluff on the &#8216;7 best retweets&#8217; or &#8217;10 ways to max LinkedIn&#8217; that is so typical of social media posts, but some real ideas on content for the blogs, Facebook, Twitter and Youtube accounts of specific industries.<\/p>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t already seen the first two in the series &#8216;Social media for recruitment&#8217; \u00a0and\u00a0 \u2018Social media for music venues\u2019 then check them out <a href=\"http:\/\/jonhartley.com\/?cat=98\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Social media for restaurants<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A basic social media mix of a blog and Twitter, Facebook and Youtube accounts can be used by a restaurant or restaurant chain to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enhance traditional marketing initiatives like seasonal offers at Christmas or Valentines, lunch menus, vouchers and off-peak bookings mid-week.<\/li>\n<li>Attract the right kind of attention and protect the restaurant\u2019s reputation for excellence<\/li>\n<li>Find staff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">TWITTER<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Twitter can be a billboard, but use it exclusively for advertising and you\u2019ll never build follower numbers. Intersperse sales tweets with content that is conversational, quizzical, funny and topical<\/p>\n<p>Build follower numbers by giving one free starter or beer to restaurant visitors who become followers and rewards them for recruiting new followers from amongst their friends<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Post tweets with links to food media like\n<ul>\n<li>Last night\u2019s episode of Masterchef<\/li>\n<li>Gordon Ramsay and other celebrity chefs<\/li>\n<li>Reviews of your restaurant<\/li>\n<li>Articles on the cuisine you serve<\/li>\n<li>Posts on your blog<\/li>\n<li>New YouTube videos<\/li>\n<li>Facebook events including updates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Post alerts on\n<ul>\n<li>Special events \u2013 Valentines dinners, Christmas Lunch<\/li>\n<li>Special seasonal offers<\/li>\n<li>Recent successes at competition<\/li>\n<li>Attendance at food fairs or local festivals<\/li>\n<li>new top staff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Ask questions on\n<ul>\n<li>favourite foods<\/li>\n<li>what customers would like<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Announce job vacancies<\/li>\n<li>Answer criticisms promptly and politely<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">FACEBOOK<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Because so many people use Facebook (500 million and counting) your business would be mad to ignore it.<\/p>\n<p>There should be a button on your website linking to Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>Like Twitter, Facebook can be used to alert visitors to information on your blog. Its format allows for a longer intro to blog posts.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BLOG<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The blog is your very own 24 hour rolling news bulletin designed to entertain and inform &#8211; content uncut. You can post film, audio and texts of unlimited length.<\/p>\n<p>Blog posts could be<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Articles on the restaurant\u2019s cuisine<\/li>\n<li>Short introductory articles with links to reviews of the restaurant\n<ul>\n<li>Professional reviews<\/li>\n<li>Customer reviews<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Diary entries written by members of staff<\/li>\n<li>Recent visits or attendance at local or national food events<\/li>\n<li>Embedded videos from YouTube channel<\/li>\n<li>Picture galleries\n<ul>\n<li>Of famous guests<\/li>\n<li>Customers (with prior agreement)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Embedded YouTube video<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">YOUTUBE<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your special being prepared<\/li>\n<li>Parties and functions (with prior agreement)<\/li>\n<li>History of restaurant<\/li>\n<li>Special events that included entertainment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Promoting Social Media offline<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is important to sell your social media at every opportunity. Make sure your Facebook and Twitter accounts are present in things like<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Posters (in the bathrooms for example)<\/li>\n<li>Brochures<\/li>\n<li>Lunch vouchers<\/li>\n<li>Menus<\/li>\n<li>Receipts<\/li>\n<li>Business cards<\/li>\n<li>E-mail campaigns<\/li>\n<li>Press ads<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The list of ideas for social media content above is not exhaustive.
